NSP Helicopter Assists in Pursuit Arrest in Lincoln

August 6, 2024 (Lincoln, Neb.)  — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the Lincoln Police Department, have arrested one person after a pursuit in north Lincoln.

At approximately 10:15 p.m. Monday, a trooper attempted a traffic stop on a Ford Focus for driving without taillights on Superior Street, near 14th Street. The driver refused to yield and accelerated westbound on Superior. The vehicle then turned southbound and continued fleeing on 1st Street, reaching speeds of 80 miles per hour. As the vehicle ran a red light at 1st and Cornhusker, the NSP Helicopter took over the pursuit from the air and the trooper on the ground discontinued.

NSP pilots tracked the fleeing vehicle as it turned back northbound and eventually came to a stop in a parking lot near 14th and Adams. Pilots then observed the driver flee on foot and attempt to hide in a tree line.

Troopers and LPD officers arrived on scene and an LPD K9 was used to track the subject. The driver was located at approximately 11:00 p.m. and was taken into custody without further incident. The driver, Tajzier Johnson, 21, of Lincoln, was arrested for felony flight to avoid arrest, failure to obey a lawful order, and several traffic violations. He was lodged in Lancaster County Corrections.
