Kearney, Neb. – Sophomore Lily Novacek finished 15th in the hammer throw at the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships Thursday afternoon in Emporia.

This was the first of a three-day meet held at Emporia State’s Welch Stadium. A top eight finish in any individual event is good for first-team All-American honors; placed nine through 12 are second-team All-Americans.

In the NCAA’s for a second consecutive spring, Novacek (Kearney) had a 169-11 effort on her first throw. She then had efforts of 166-7 and 163-5. Novacek came into the meet ranked sixth with a season-best toss of 192-0. Last May, she was 13th in the hammer (183-4) and 16th in the discus (141-11).

On a day with temperatures in the 80’s and winds blowing steadily at 15 miles per hour, the field of 20 was paced by Indianapolis junior Zoe Pentecost (201-5). Washburn sophomore Adriel Holloway was the runner up (192-7) with the 12th place finisher and final All-American being Missouri Western junior Allyssa Mahone (173-3). Overall, the MIAA had six All-Americans.

On Friday, senior Brayden Sorensen (high jump/3:30 p.m.) and senior Wes Ferguson (800-meter prelims/6 p.m.) will compete.
