CLAY CENTER, Nebraska: The Clay County Board of Supervisors, Sheriff Jeff Franklin and Emergency Manager Tim Lewis are excited to announce the opening of the new Clay County 911 Emergency Communications Center on March 3rd, 2021. The 911 Emergency Communications Center will merge
dispatch for police, fire, and emergency services for Clay County municipal and rural residents and will be located at 212 W. Fairfield St, Clay County.

This project was recommended by the 911 Committee years ago and was born out of the need to meet an increased demand for services and system upgrades. Sheriff Franklin and Emergency Manager Lewis both believe this is a positive change that will enable the County to better serve its citizens during emergencies and are working together to ensure an effective transition. “We are extremely proud of the new 911 Center and believe the technology and systems that we have in place will enable us to provide our communities with the best possible service in the event of an emergency,” said Franklin and Lewis.

The new facility includes several facility perks including expanded work areas, better lighting, 911 call mapping, incorporated data management and a records management for the Sheriff’s Department and our local police, fire and EMS personnel working across Clay County. The new Clay County 911 Center will incorporate new technologies to better serve those internal law enforcement and emergency responder partners/customers, and our external customers, the citizens living or traveling in Clay County.

The new center has technologies that have redundant backup systems, increased working space and additional access to systems during complex emergency calls.

Clay County Board Chairman L. Wayne Johnson noted, “We are ready for today, but even more so, we are prepared for the future.” Our federal and state partners who oversee Dispatch Centers have requirements that Emergency Call Centers must be secured with no public access. The new Clay County 911 Center will not have public access. No unescorted unscheduled visitors can not be allowed entry. Sheriff Franklin will maintain 24-hour 7 day a week operations, staff, jail, law enforcement functions to the community, and administrative services for gun permits, VIN checks, and civil processes as always at the current Clay
County Sheriff’s Dept at 104 E. Edgar, Clay Center, NE.

We encourage members of the public to call 911 when they see something suspicious, have a driving complaint, or an emergency as enhanced mapping technology will help us get services to you faster and more efficiently by using 911.

Calling in on the landline 10 digit number of 402-762-3528 will still get you connected with help and for administrative and non-emergency assistance like dogs barking, parking complaints, information requests, and wishing to speak to a member of the law enforcement agencies this center serves. 911 should be used for all medical issues, fires, and law enforcement emergencies. Our dispatchers at the Clay County 911 Center will answer the Clay County Sheriff’s Department telephone number of 402-762-3528 every hour of the day, every day of the year in the same professionalism as our county residents are accustomed to over the decades of Sheriff Franklin’s
service to the county.
