Frontier County, Neb. — A Curtis woman charged with using her minor daughter to sell drugs has taken a plea deal.

According to Frontier County District Court records, Candy McClain, 47, pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of a controlled substance (hydrocodone). In exchange for plea, the charge was amended from child abuse. An additional charge of using a minor to distribute a controlled substance was dismissed.

According to an arrest affidavit, in November 2023, a man reported to the Frontier County Sheriff’s Office that his wife, McClain, sold different medications, including his Hydrocodone, to people for extra cash. He added McClain often sent their minor daughter to exchange the pills with the buyer.

The affidavit says McClain has prior convictions for drug possession, forgery and procuring alcohol to a minor. Additionally, court records say there have been 14 child abuse neglect hotline intakes on the family since 2013.

McClain is set to appear in Frontier County District Court for sentencing at 10 a.m. May 22.
