Chadron, NE  October 27, 2023 —  Amanda Gehrt joined the Nebraska National Forests & Grasslands (NNFG) leadership team as the NNFG Deputy Forest Supervisor. Gehrt comes to the NNFG from the Reserve Ranger District on the Gila National Forest in southwest New Mexico. 

Gehrt was raised in Westerville, NE and attended high school in Ansley.  Following graduation, she attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney where she earned a Wildlife Biology degree in 2003. She started her professional career as a soil technician with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Nebraska at the Loup City, Ord and Broken Bow field offices. 

In 2006 Gehrt moved to the State of Washington to work at the Snohomish Conservation District as a Farm Planner and on water quality issues. Then in 2009 she moved to Reserve, NM and started work as a wildlife seasonal for the Gila National Forest.

Within a year, she moved into a permanent District Wildlife position on two districts of the Gila National Forest, the Quemado and Reserve Districts, where she worked for 11 years. 

Following Temporary Promotions as a Forest Biologist on two different Forests, the Apache-Sitgreaves and the Gila National Forest, she accepted a Temporary Promotion as the Reserve District Ranger.  In 2021 Gehrt started the next phase of her career as the Reserve District Ranger. 

Gehrt and her husband Casey come to Chadron, NE with their two children, a twelve-year-old son and a nine-year-old daughter.  According to Gehrt, she and her family enjoy all the outdoor activities and love to travel when schedules allow.
