(OMAHA, NE) â€“Health care systems from across Nebraska met in Omaha on October 10, 2024, as part of a kickoff for The Veterans Affair External Provider Scheduling (EPS) system. EPS is one of the Veterans Health Administration’s largest digital health investments. This statewide initiative is a first for this program and will make Nebraska one of the most connected states for Veterans.

EPS enables VA schedulers to view and book appointments directly into local scheduling systems, enhancing care coordination by tracking outcomes in real time. The efficient approach streamlines the process by decreasing the number of communications made between VA staff, Veterans, and community care providers. The program has been proven to reduce wait times and increase Veteran satisfaction. 39 hospitals in Nebraska are planning to utilize the EPS system.

Funding for the EPS initiative is an approximately $300 million federal appropriation. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) led the Nebraska delegation to ensure its ability to come to Nebraska. She is also a co-sponsor for continued funding along with Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.).

Senator Fischer attended the event and met with officials from the Nebraska Rural Health Association, the Nebraska Hospital Association, and local health care systems on the program.
