Health professionals from around the globe are getting an inside look at the agriculture industry thanks to continuing education courses being held in Nebraska.
The Agricultural Health and Safety Course for Medical and Safety Professionals is a three-session series that is hybrid to include online content and several in-person visits to facilities like the Eastern Nebraska Research Extension and Education Center. The first session was held on July 9-10 followed by the second session on July 11-12 and the final course topics open online from July 9-August 9.
All three sessions focus on topics in general agriculture health, ag safety and prevention, and special topics like youth in ag, hearing loss, and even cancer cases specific to the industry.
“[We’re] letting them see what they might see in their clinics or as they’re out working with the population,” Ellen Duysen, director of the event, said.
Those in attendance at the sessions, provided at no-cost, include doctors, nurses, veterinarians, and EMS personnel in addition to others who have an interest in ag health. Health representatives from Australia, Indonesia, and Brazil also joined the course this year.
Duysen says they plan to continue the program for many years in the future and expand the online reach of the content they provide to include asynchronous continuing education modules.
