NEB BOWL: NU Ends Season at Regionals

Rochester, N.Y. – The Nebraska bowling team ended its season at the Rochester Regional with a 2-2 record as the Huskers won their third match against Wilmington but fell to Fairleigh Dickinson in the championship match.
 
NU started the day off with a rematch against Wilmington, winning 2-0. Continuing yesterday’s lineup with Gwen MaehaKendyl HofmeisterKayla VerstraeteCassidy Ray, and Crystal Elliott, the Huskers began traditional-style play and won its first point of the mega-match, by a score of 1,046-905. The team was led by Ray and Elliott who both scored 223. Hofmeister (220) and Verstraete (206) trailed closely, and Maeha rounding out the team with 174. With a 1-0 record, Nebraska jumped into baker-style play, where they swept and took the second point (1,093-973). The bowlers started with a bang in the first game, scoring (247-223). Keeping up the momentum, NU claimed the victory in games two (193-172), three (221-189) and four (216-189). With a 103-pin lead, Alexis Buchert stepped into the lineup in the tenth frame to throw the last two shots, ending the match 216-200 and solidifying a place in the championship match. 
 
The Huskers moved onto the championship match against Fairleigh Dickinson. The team fell in the first portion of the mega-match (1,054-996). To start the traditional-style match, Nebraska kept its same lineup of Maeha, Hofmeister, Verstraete, Ray and Elliott and subbed in Michelle Guarro for Maeha in the sixth frame. Verstraete led the team with 10 total strikes and a score of 256. Following closely behind was Hofmeister (206), Ray (191), Maeha/Guarro (172) and Elliott (171). Moving on to the baker-style match, Nebraska fell in the first game (203-194), but pushed back in the second game to win by a score of 206-202. With only a five-pin difference, NU fell in the final three games (177-166, 237-200 and 188-185) and dropped the overall match.

Nebraska ends its season with the most tournament titles from the 2021-22 season with five. The team brought home three-straight titles with wins at the Bearcat Hammer Open, Track Kat Klash, and Motiv Ladyjack Classic. NU most recently won the Mid-Winter Invitational, and its lone home tournament, the Big Red Invitational.
