LINCOLN, Nebraska – The NE Chamber has released a list of state legislative bills that have received priority designation based on feedback the State Chamber has received from members throughout the state. These bills build on key policy initiatives established during the first session of the 108th Nebraska Legislature to accelerate Nebraska’s business climate and drive economic growth.

A breakdown of this year’s priority legislation can be found here.

“Our goal is to prioritize the desires of community businesses and the NE Chamber’s overall mission,” said Todd Duncan, NE Chamber Board Chair. “These bills focus on fostering economic growth and promoting workforce development statewide, which is exactly what our members are looking for.”

The game-changing investments the state made in community development, education and workforce, and infrastructure during the 2022 and 2023 Legislative Sessions has positioned 2024 state lawmakers to unleash Nebraska’s economy through a variety of approaches. This includes streamlining regulations and expanding flexibility for child care businesses, providing regulatory relief while investing in the state’s workforce housing supply, and ensuring Nebraska’s tax code allows businesses to remain competitive in research and development and when competing for remote workers.

“The NE Chamber continues to advocate for policies that strengthen and grow Nebraska’s economy and strengthen our workforce,” said NE Chamber President Bryan Slone. “Thanks to like-minded state senators, the legislature is considering a number of bills this session that advance these goals and continue to accelerate our state and elevate Nebraska’s standing as the best state to live, work and start a business.”

Several of the NE Chamber’s 2024 priority bills have been introduced at the request of Governor Jim Pillen, who shares businesses’ desire to strengthen the state’s workforce. Additionally, there is a growing consensus among legislative leaders to place workforce issues at the forefront during this legislative session.

The NE Chamber also identified several bills aiming to ensure the massive amounts of property tax relief enacted by previous Legislatures is received by Nebraskans. Measures to cap local spending growth (in a manner that accounts for areas experiencing rapid growth), establish a levy decrease mechanism to mitigate large valuation increases, and frontload tax relief on Nebraskans’ property tax statements are all policies that Nebraska’s businesses can support while remaining within important guardrails around comprehensive tax reform.

The NE Chamber is the largest statewide multi-industry business association, proudly serving its members since 1912. It is where members of the business community gather to help make Nebraska the best place to own, operate and grow a business. Focused on delivering economic and workforce growth and a competitive business climate, members also gain a network of experienced, connected business leaders across the state.
