ROCKVILLE – Responders were busy Tuesday morning with multiple accidents reported along Highway 58.

The Sherman County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to a car vs. calf accident on the highway near Rockville.

Soon after, a separate car struck a deer a short distance away. The driver of that vehicle, 21-year-old Ryen Haines of Ansley, was transported to a nearby hospital by the Loup City-Ashton-Rockville Cooperative Ambulance Squad.

While the second accident was being investigated a call came shortly after 7:15 a.m. for a semi rollover two miles away. The Sheriff’s Office said a semi hauling Pepsi products went off the road, re-entered then rolled onto the passenger side.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old Dakota Shelton of St. Joseph, Mo., was able to exit the vehicle. The passenger, 28-year-old Caliope Roque of Grand Island, had to be extricated. Both were transported for unknown injuries by Dannebrog Boelus Rescue.

Highway 58 was blocked for about two hours. The vehicle and its contents were removed from the highway at approximately 10:50 a.m.

The sheriff’s office said it would like to thank all the agencies that provided assistance, which also included the Nebraska Department of Transportation, Ravenna Volunteer Fire Department, Kramer’s Wrecker Service, the Nebraska State Patrol and some local citizens.

Correction: An earlier version of this story mistakenly identified Ryen Haines as the passenger in the semi.
