Dawson County Sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant on an Overton residence Sunday afternoon and seized numerous weapons and ammunition among other items.   The warrant was prompted by an arrest of the home’s resident the previous evening on weapons charges related to the discharge of a firearm in the community.

When 60-year-old Douglas Weiser was arrested the Saturday evening, a .22 and .17 caliber rifles were seized.  But, much more was found during the search of the residence.  Sheriff Mark Montgomery says the search revealed an additional .22 cal rifle, 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun,  .22 cal pistol, two sets of brass knuckles, over  3,200 rounds in assorted ammunition and less than an ounce of Marijuana.

Sheriff Mark Montgomery commended the work of the Sheriff’s Office staff who executed the search warrant including: Inv Sgt Shane Monthey, Sgt Tim Kostrunek, Dep Chris Shook, Dep Chade Byrne and Deputy Ivan Castellanos.

Weiser was convicted of  Felony DUI in 2014 in Buffalo County District Court.  As a Felon, Weiser is prohibited from possessing weapons.

The investigation began around 6:30pm Saturday evening when the Sheriff’s Office was contacted about a person outside of a residence shooting a gun.  It led to the arrest of Weiser.  He was arraigned in Dawson County Court on charges related to that incident.  Weiser’s bond was set at 10% of $50,000.  His next hearing is on May 4, 2023 at 11:00 am in Dawson County Court.
