MINDEN – After a state championship last year, the Minden volleyball team is looking forward to another run as the new season approaches.

The Whippets were 36-1 in 2023, defeating Kearney Catholic in five sets to win their first ever volleyball state title last year. Coming into 2024, Minden only loses two seniors from last season, and returns most of their starters. Mattie Kamery is a key returner, as she finished in the team lead in kills with 499, averaging over five per set. Myla Emery also returns after averaging over three kills per set in 2023. Makenna Betty and Makenna Starky both had over 60 blocks last year, and both setters are back for the Whippets as well. In total, Minden will bring eight seniors onto this years team.

Minden volleyball head coach Julie Ratka says her team will take each day game by game, and is well aware that they have a target on their back this season. She spoke with KRVN’s Jon Willis.

Minden will start their season on August 29th at Ord.
