Minden, Neb. — Minden Volunteer Fire Department and Quad-City Mutual Aid, which shares resources of 10 fire departments, responded to a grass fire shortly after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday on the west side of Minden.

Minden Volunteer Fire Chief Tom Brown says the fire started in the 500 block of 9th street as a grass fire and quickly spread to a junkyard. About 40 firefighters were on scene with various equipment….

Brown says they needed all the firefighters who showed up because, “if it would have crossed 11th street, we had several houses that would have been affected.” Brown says firefighters showed up quickly, got the fire stopped, surrounded it and extinguished it. They were able to bring it under control in about 2 hours.

Brown says the fire burned two storage buildings, 10 acres of pasture and multiple cars stored on the property. Brown estimated the fire caused a total of $150,000 in damage. The owner of the property was not cited as the fire was determined to be accidental.
