McCook Wins Pitchers’ Duel over Gothenburg

The McCook MNB Bank Seniors Legion Baseball team got a big win over the Gothenburg Melons on Thursday night, winning 2-1 in a pitchers’ duel.

McCook got the scoring going in the top of the second, starting off with a RBI single by Noah Mashek. They got another run in the second thanks to a wild pitch to score Espn Hall. Offensively, Gothenburg struggled, going three up three down in five of the seven innings. Gothenburg would get their only run in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a RBI double by Jackson Schwanz. After the fourth, Gothenburg would only have one more baserunner in the rest of the game, and thanks to a seven inning performance from Trenton Raile, they held on to win 2-1.

Raile went seven innings allowing one run on two hits with eight strikeouts. Ethan Olson kept Gothenburg in it, going all seven innings as well allowing two runs on five hits one strikeout and three walks. McCook was led hitting by Hall who was 2-2 with a double and a run scored. Mashek went 2-2 with a RBI. Schwanz and Carson Farr had the two hits for Gothenburg.

Gothenburg falls to 3-10 on the year, and takes on Minden tomorrow. McCook is now 10-10 and will take on Cambridge Arapahoe on Saturday.
