MCCOOK- The McCook Bison boys basketball team crushed Lexington 63-31 on Tuesday (February 22) in the first round of the Class B-7 Subdistricts. The win sets up a date with Grand Island Northwest for McCook on February 23rd.

Lexington was the better team out of the gate. The Minutemen were up 5-0 early in the first, playing slow, controlling the pace, and playing good defense. Six straight points from senior Josh Hegwood helped propel the Bison to go on a 25-6 run throughout the next quarter and a half. Senior Brendan Gillen hit a buzzer beating three at the end of the first which really seemed to change the momentum for good. The lead went from what would have been five, to eight after the first period. From then on, it was all McCook. The Bison outscored the Minutemen 19-8 in the second quarter, and a total of 26-13 in the second half. Lexington simply struggled to find anything offensively, having no players score in double digits. With the win, McCook improved to 19-6, and punched their ticket to the B-7 Subdistrict final.

Senior Isaac Scharff led Lexington in scoring with 8 points, while junior Evan Humphrey led the way for McCook with 18 points.

With the loss, Lexington ended their season with a 5-19 total record. McCook will face Grand Island Northwest on February 23rd at 7:30 PM CT in the class B-7 subdistrict final.
