Ogallala, Neb. — A man named in a warrant for homicide from California was arrested by officers from the Ogallala Police Department at a local Walmart. The suspect has been identified as

Arcenio Jose Fernandez Marquez who has an arrest warrant for homicide from the Richmond Police Department out of Contra Costa County, California.

Ogallala Police Department was advised Tuesday, June 25, to be on the lookout for a white Toyota Prius with California plates associated with a man wanted for homicide. Ogallala Police officers were notified that the individual was considered armed and dangerous.

The car was located at Walmart on Pony Express Lane, but was unoccupied at the time. In an effort to limit any potential incident inside Walmart, law enforcement, which included the Keith County Sheriff’s office, waited in the Scooter’s Coffee parking lot where they could observe the Walmart parking lot and the suspect’s car.

The male suspect exited Walmart, got into the car and began driving.

Law enforcement officers from the Ogallala Police Department and the Keith County Sheriff’s Office immediately engaged the car and they were able to get the suspect pulled over in the parking lot of the

Holiday Inn Express, directly south of Walmart and west of the Scooter’s Coffee location.

At the same time, Nebraska State Patrol arrived and were able to place the individual in handcuffs.

Fernandez Marquez is currently being held in the Keith County Jail and it is anticipated that he will be extradited to California.
