Man taken into custody after incident in McCook

On Friday, October 29, 2021, at approximately 5:32 pm, the McCook Police Department received a report of a subject in a vehicle at the Memorial Park Cemetery who possessed a gun. At approximately 5:34 pm, the police department received another report involving a possible suicidal person in a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle from the previous report.

McCook Police Department Officers responded to Memorial Park Cemetery and located the vehicle occupied by a male subject. When contacted by officers, the occupant failed to follow commands and refused to exit the vehicle. As additional officers were dispatched to the scene, area residents were notified of the situation and asked to remain inside their residence.

After approximately 48 minutes of negotiating with the occupant, he surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

Troopers from the Nebraska State Patrol assisted the McCook Police Department at the scene.
