Man spending decades in prison for Gosper County crimes in the 1980s dies

State prison officials have reported the death of a man serving a lengthy sentence
for various crimes out of Gosper County.


Duane Schriner, 69, died Wednesday morning at the Reception and
Treatment Center Nursing Facility, according to the Nebraska Department of
Correctional Services.

Schriner was sentenced in March of 1983 to 60-150 years in prison for 2nd degree
sexual assault, burglary, and use of a firearm to commit a felony out of Gosper
County.
Those crimes were committed in December of 1982.


He was additionally sentenced to up to a year in prison for escape in
Lancaster County.


As is the case whenever an inmate dies in prison custody, a grand jury will conduct an
investigation.
