Kearney, Neb. – Eight members of the Nebraska Kearney track and field team have earned 2024 All-Central Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the outdoor season. The top-five individuals in each event from each of Division II’s eight regions earn All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the top-three relay teams.
On the women’s side, redshirt sophomore Lily Novacek (Kearney) leads the region in the hammer (192-0), freshman Sydney Davis (Dannebrog) is tied for fourth in the high jump at 5-8.50 with York sophomore Brynn Hirschfeld (York) third in the steeplechase in 10:51.61.
Eight-time All-American Wes Ferguson (Fremont) leads the way in the 800-meters (1:45.85), senior Brayden Sorensen (Kearney) is second in the high jump (7-1.50), junior Alex Homan (Creighton) is fourth in the vault (career-best 16-8) with Kansas sophomores Rylan Basart (school-record 233-11) and Kenyon Forest (213-2) second and fifth, respectively, in the javelin.
The NCAA Championships run this Thursday-Saturday at Emporia State with the Lopers have 10 qualifiers.
