Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women’s soccer team managed to tie 23rd-ranked Concordia-St. Paul, 0-0, Friday night at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium.

This was the home opener for UNK (2-0-1) and the first of two home tournaments. In Friday’s early game, New Mexico Highlands downed Minnesota State-Moorhead, 2-1. On Sunday, the Lopers face MSUM while CSP (1-0-2) battles Highlands.

Fresh off its first 2-0-0 opening weekend in program history, UNK got off eight shots tonight with Lincoln sophomore keeper Susie Bovaird making four saves. The Golden Bears, who beat Texas A&M-International and tied St. Edward’s (Texas) last weekend, also had eight shots with keeper Syndey Potter recording three saves. UNK had one more corner, 6-5, with CU having one more shot on goal, 4-3.

Colorado freshman reserve Daniella Iaquinta had a team-best three shots (two on goal) with five others having one apiece. That included Lincoln junior Corynne Olsen and Bolivian senior Ivana Siles. The Golden Bears had just three players with shots in starters Sammy Ponsonby (four) and Sophia Haase (two) and reserve Elena Siekas. In the last 15 minutes, Siekas had a shot sail wide of the net with UNK fighting off two Golden Bear corners. Finally, UNK’s last shot came in the 67th minute and was stopped by Potter.
