Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney men’s tennis team won two singles matches in three sets and took the doubles point to down Barton (Kan.) C.C., 5-2, Wednesday afternoon at Harmon Park.

This “Senior Day” dual was just added to the UNK schedule last week. Barton (11-2) came in ranked fourth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

The Lopers (12-7) allowed just seven total points in three doubles matches to go up 1-0 on the scoreboard. Now 20th-ranked Aaron Osmond (U.K.) and Tom van den Dungen (The Netherlands) moved to 14-3 on the year after a 6-3 decision at one with freshman Andy Brisdon (U.K.) and Jakob Strzelecki (Poland) blanking their Cougar foes at three.

While BCC won at one and three singles, Strzelecki got a straight set win at four (6-4, 6-2) as did freshman Ahmed Abdelaziz (Egypt) at six, 6-4, 6-2. UNK then clinched after Australian sophomore Alex Jaulin rallied at five (5-7, 6-4, 10-6). Finally, Mens got past 39th-ranked Fernando Andre at two to close out the afternoon (6-7, 6-4, 10-7).

Both Loper squads head to Edmond, Okla., this weekend to face Southern Arkansas and Southeastern Oklahoma State. These will be MIAA duals for the men as 40th-ranked SAU and SEOSU are in the MIAA’s “South” Division with UNK a “North” Division member.
