BERTRAND – The Loomis Wolves took advantage of Bertrand miscues Thursday night to defeat the Vikings 44-6 and improve their record to 7-0.

Loomis started the game by fumbling the football on their first drive. However, their defense would step up and thwart any Bertrand threat and forced a punt. The Wolves would take the ball down the field on their next drive and score on a fourth down conversion on a 33 yard Jace Schukar rushing touchdown. From there, Loomis never looked back. They would then force a fumble and recover it to set up a short field. Loomis would find the endzone on a six yard rushing score from Cauy Meyer to grab a two score lead in the first quarter.

The Wolves would tack on to their score early in the second quarter as Meyer intercepted a Viking pass and returned in 50 yards for a pick six. Despite one more Loomis turnover in the quarter, the Wolves found the endzone just before the end of the first half as Graham Trompke tossed a 35 yard touchdown to his brother, Ben Trompke. Bertrand struggled to move the ball as penalties stacked up against the Vikings. Loomis led 30-0 in the first half.

Both teams played a cleaner second half with fewer penalties and no turnovers. Loomis added a touchdown on their first drive in the third quarter as the Trompke connected with Trompke for a 32 yard touchdown pass. Bertrand answered on the kickoff as Cooper Langford returned it 50 yards for a the lone Viking score. Loomis would score one final time as Schukar ran in from four yards out in the fourth quarter.

Loomis used a balanced offensive attack to grab the road victory. The Wolves ran for 100 yards while passing for 171. Trompke was 9-12 through the air for 136 yards and two passing touchdowns. Schukar ran for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Meyer ran for 26 yards and accounted for two scores. Along with the two turnovers, Loomis committed eight penalties for 60 yards. For Bertrand, penalties and two turnovers proved to be their demise. The Vikings committed 13 penalties for 105 yards. Bertrand would finish with 38 yards of offense. Thunder Nelson ran for 11 yards while Waylon Olesen went 5-15 through the air for 28 yards, a fumble and an interception.

Up next, 1-6 Bertrand will travel to Maywood Hayes Center next week while Loomis will visit Overton.
