Loomis stays unbeaten Thursday; Schukar nears 300 yards

Loomis, Neb. – The Wolves remain undefeated and passed perhaps their toughest test of the season with a 48-22 win over Hitchcock County on Thursday. Loomis took advantage of sophomore running back Jace Schukar’s season-high 292 yards on the ground to improve to 6-0.

The Falcon defense had no answer for an offense that has yet to score fewer than 36 points in a game this season. Schukar also led the Wolves in scoring on Thursday, rushing for four touchdowns and adding another as a receiver. With a pair of two-point conversions, Schukar was responsible for 34 of the Wolves’ 48 points. He also eclipsed the 200-yard mark for the second time this season and is now just four yards shy of 1,000.

The scariest part of coach Tye Spies offense might be that opposing defenses are unable to focus solely on stopping the run game, however. Sophomore Graham Trompke has been able to keep pressure off of his teammate by throwing for over 150 yards per game, including 161 passing yards against Hitchcock County. Trompke threw for two touchdowns as well, finding junior Cauy Meyer in the endzone in addition to Schukar. Meyer had a productive day with seven receptions for 93 yards while leading the defense with 11 tackles. Junior Tyson Freeman finished with 10 total tackles, two for a loss, and a fumble recovery.

With just two games remaining, Loomis has placed themselves in prime position to host a first-round playoff game. They’ll be on the road the next weeks. The Wolves will be in Bertrand on Thursday, October 10. That game can be heard on 880 KRVN, 106.9 FM, and 98.5 FM starting at 6:40 pm. Loomis wraps up their regular season at Overton on Friday, October 18.
