OVERTON – The Loomis football team trailed by 12 points in the fourth quarter and came back to win a nail biter 28-26 over Overton.

It was a great start for Loomis, scoring on their first possession on a 38-yard rushing touchdown from Jace Schukar. From there though, Overton would take over, scoring on their next three possessions. They scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown from Gage Clifton and a 23-yard rushing touchdown from Hayden Muirhead to go up in the second quarter. Late in the second quarter, Loomis would turn it over thanks to an interception from Brody Fleischman for Overton. The Eagles would take advantage, scoring again on a two-yard rushing touchdown from Muirhead to lead 19-8 at halftime.

To start the second half, both teams traded turnover on downs before Schukar would punch in his second touchdown with a 41-yard rushing touchdown to cut the lead to 19-14. Loomis would also get the ball back thanks to a Graham Trompke interception, but turned it over on downs again. Early in the fourth quarter, after an Eli Luther interception for Overton, Muirhead would punch in a 44-yard rushing touchdown to push the lead to 26-14 with nine minutes to play in the fourth. From there, Loomis would have another turnover on downs, with things looking bleak. Thanks to a bad snap on a punt on the ensuing Overton drive, Loomis got field position at the Overton 13 and would punch it in from six yards out thanks to another Schukar rushing touchdown. Overton led 26-22 with just over five minutes to play in the fourth.

On the next kickoff, Loomis would successfully recover an onside kick, but a holding penalty would stall the drive, and Loomis would punt late in the fourth. The defense held, getting the ball back, but Loomis was pinned back at their own five with just less than three minutes left. It was no problem for Loomis though, taking a three play 75-yard drive capped off by a 66-yard touchdown reception from Graham Trompke to Ben Trompke to give Loomis a 28-26 lead with just over two minutes left in the fourth. Overton had a chance late though, getting a great return setting up field position at midfield. After moving the ball up a bit, and with 30 seconds left, Overton attempted a 42-yard field goal to try and take the lead. Brody Fleischman came on to attempt the field goal, and would just narrowly miss, hitting the left upright and giving Loomis the 28-26 win.

Overton had 312 total yards of offense, 209 of them coming on the ground. Muirhead had 20 carries for 132 yards and three touchdowns, going 13-23 through the air with 103 yards and an interception. Loomis was led by Schukar who had 19 carries for 173 yards and three touchdowns. Graham Trompke was 11-26 with 181 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions.
