KEARNEY, NE – Farmers and ranchers, restaurant owners, and local food supporters in Buffalo County are invited to take part in public meetings focused on food insecurity and increased access to local foods.
Meetings will be Thursdays, Feb. 22 and March 14, from 4-5 p.m., at the Kearney Public Library, 2020 First Ave.
“Do you want to know more about the food insecurity challenges Buffalo County faces?” asked Deborah Solie, project associate with the Center for Rural Affairs. “Join our public meetings, where a panel of local experts will talk about the work that is being done to increase local food access in the area and provide your ideas on what can be done.”
The goal of the meetings is to identify food security gaps and ways to increase economic opportunities for farmers and value-added producers at farmers markets and farm stands.
This project coincides with a community program that will increase access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) benefits in the Kearney Area Farmers Market.

The meetings are hosted by Buffalo County Community Partners, Center for Rural Affairs, and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
