Lexington track season gets underway

The Minutemaids and Minutemen track teams opened up their season on Thursday by attending the Concordia University Indoor Meet. A limited squad represented the teams yet some individuals had some respectable marks to start their season.

Sophomore Nevaeh Sauer set a new personal best in the long jump with a leap of 15’ 6 ¼” to place 6th. Hadlie Wolf threw 28’ 9” in the shot put and then helped lead the Minutemaids with a throw of 93’ 1” to place 11th. Senior Susana Calmo ran a respectable 6:02 in the 1600 meters to place 9th and Junior Harley Sund ran her first competition in the 400 meters with a time of 71.2.

The Minutemen were led by senior distance runner Miguel Cruz who won the 3200 meters in a time of 10:19.9. In the 1600 meters, Laz Adame placed 4th while teammate Eduardo Duarte set a personal best in a time of 4:54.97 to place 7th. In the field events Miguel Castellanos placed 5th in shot put with a throw of 43’ 1” and set a new personal best in the discus with a throw of 118’ 4”.
