Lexington track competes at B-5 meet

The Lexington track teams competed in the Class B-5 district track meet on Tuesday in Aurora. The Minutemen scored 39 points to finish 6th, the Minutemaids score 32 points to finish 8th. Coach Sam Jilka listed these highlights from Tuesday’s meet.

Field Events: Abbriel Sutton placed 2nd in shot put with at throw of 37’ 8 1/2 ” and second in discus with a throw of 127’ to qualify for State in both events. Senior Miguel Castellanos placed third in shot put to qualify for state.

Mady Wolfe set a new personal best jump of 35’ 3” to place 2nd in triple jump to qualify for state. (An injury prevented freshman Kipley Kuecker from competing at her best in triple jump and she finished with a jump of 33’ 6”, well below her normal jumps.)

Pole Vaulter Jason Hernandez vaulted a season best of 12’ 2”.

Running events:

Hurdler Naomi Arias set personal bests in her 100 hurdles both in prelims and finals (17.33), placing 8th and she set a new personal best in the 300 hurdles.

Isac Portillo placed third in the 3200 meters to earn a chance to go to state and with a time of 10:03.9 set a new freshman 3200 meter record. Portillo also reset the 1600 meter record in a time of 4:37.69 to place 5th.

Christian Burton fell short of qualifying in the 110 hurdles placing fourth but used that as a motivation to run a personal best time of 41.96 to place 2nd in the 300 hurdles and earn a chance to go to State.

Susana Calmo had an outstanding distance running day shattering her previous personal best time and running 12:10.66 to place fourth and ran 5:37.29 in the 1600 meters to place fourth. There is an outside chance she will qualify as a wildcard in both events.

Omar Portillo, Eduardo Duarte, and Erick Grijalva set new personal bests in their 800 meters.
