Christian Burton, a senior to be this fall at Lexington High school, recently finished as a national runner up in FCCLA.

Last week, Burton traveled to Seattle, Washington to compete in the National Family Career and Community Leaders of America STAR competition. Burton finished as the runner up, placing only behind a competitor from Kentucky. There were approximately 50 different competitors, representing the entire United States.

The competition includes different categories including things like job interview skills, public policy advocate and fashion construction. Burton qualified for the national meet in the category of professional presentation level three.

Throughout the week, in addition to competing in his event, Burton was able to attend leadership training sessions and network with over 8,000 different high school FCCLA members in attendance.

This is the first year that Lexington has offered FCCLA as an extracurricular activity.  It is led by its sponsor, LHS Family and Consumer Science Instructor, Emma Krysl.
