LEXINGTON, NE – The Lexington Public Schools Board of Education held a public hearing during their meeting last Monday, February 12 to discuss the board’s desire to obtain land located at 1505 N. Adams Street in Lexington. The property is the location of the former Plum Creek Care Center.

Lexington Superintendent Dr. John Hakonson says the school board has plans to use the property for a new parking lot.

Hakonson adds that the property, if obtained, will also allow for future growth and expansion of the school district’s facilities.

The board has made an offer on the property, but Hakonson says they have yet to reach an agreement with the property owner. The hope is to be able to purchase the land, however, the board will use the power of eminent domain to obtain the property, if necessary.

Hakonson says the property of interest is the best option for the school district.

The board heard no comments from the public during the public hearing last Monday.
