LEXINGTON, NE – Lexington Public Schools (LPS) were in lockdown for a short time Thursday morning starting at 10:15 am.

According to an announcement made by LPS to parents, the district was placed in a SECURE lockdown due to a threat to the District Administration Building.

According to Superintendent Dr. John Hakonson, a belligerent male entered the central office Thursday morning. The man didn’t hurt anyone but “shook up the staff and broke a door.” Dr. Hakonson says the whole district went into secure because the man left the central office location in a vehicle.

Lexington Police Department responded and quickly apprehended the subject, a 41-year-old Lexington man. NTV News reports the man was arrested for criminal mischief, disturbing the peace and outstanding warrants.

LPS reported a short time later that the threat was resolved at 10:30 am, and normal routines resumed.

LPS says a SECURE is a precautionary safety measure in which no one is allowed to enter or exit the building, but students and staff continue with their daily routines inside.
