A 28-year-old Lexington has been booked into the Dawson County Jail in Lexington in connection with a pursuit last month in the Lexington area. Mozamil Daud was arraigned in Dawson County Court Wednesday on Felony charges of Flight to Avoid Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. He also faces misdemeanor charges of Obstructing a Police Officer, Driving Under Revocation, Littering and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On January 16, 2024, a Dawson County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 30 in Lexington on a traffic stop. The vehicle then traveled northwest of the community, at one point driving past a pedestrian on the roadway at 70 mph. The Sheriff’s Office report also indicated that the vehicle sped on gravel roads in excess of 90 mph and then returned to Lexington on Highway 21. At that point the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns. Some suspected Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia that was allegedly thrown out during the pursuit was recovered. Following an extensive investigation, the deputy identified the suspected driver as Daud and obtained an arrest warrant. Daud was taken into custody earlier this week. Bond in the case has been set at 10% of $50,000.

Daud also faces a Dawson County Charge of Driving Under Revocation from a traffic stop on January 13, 2024. He had been released on bond in that case after posting 10% of $2,500. An arrest warrant was issued in that case for allegedly failing to show for a hearing on February 6, 2024. A new hearing in the case was also convened on Wednesday and a new bond was set at 10% of $50,000. Both of Daud’s cases have been continued to February 26, 2024 in Dawson County Court.
