Lexington falls in home opener

LEXINGTON – The Lexington softball team fell behind early to Aurora in their season opening and couldn’t overcome the deficit, losing 12-2 in six innings Thursday night.

Aurora kicked off the season with a home run on the first pitch of the year off the bat of Adi Fahrnbruch. The Huskies would tack on two more runs in the opening frame and never looked back. Aurora would add three more runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and five more in the sixth inning. Lexington struggled early offensively as they only mustered three hits in the first five innings. Eventually, the Minutemaids offense found a spark in the sixth, smacking two hits and drove in their only two runs of the year.

Zoe Johnson picked up the win in the circle for Aurora, going four innings, allowing one hit, no runs, one walk and struck out six. Kianna Clouse received the loss, going two and two thirds, allowing seven hits, six runs, five earned. Fahrnbruch finished with a home run and two RBI’s. Londyn Teahon went 3-4 with a double and three driven in. For Lexington, Clouse and Sophia Burns each drove in one run on one hit.

Up next: Lexington stays home for a bout with Scottsbluff today while Aurora returns home for their first home game of the season this evening.
