LEXINGTON- The Minutemen and Minutemaids of Lexington are ready to begin their 2022-2023 winter season. Both teams are dealing with different challenges this season, with both teams trying to improve from last year.

First, the boys basketball team have a lot of optimism for this year. While the Minutemen were 5-17 last season, they return a solid group of seniors. Lexington returns 6 seniors this year, which will help lead the way for the Minutemen. That along with a healthy mix of underclassmen will take part of the bulk of the roster this season. Seniors Daud Daud, Jase Carpenter, Levi Converse, Kaden West, Greysen Strauss, and Dru Truax were all big parts of the team last year, and will use the experience for this year and to help the underclassmen.

Listen to head coach Zach Jones and seniors Daud Daud and Kaden West talk at the 2022 Lexington Media Days.

For the girls team, they will look much different this season. After a 6-17 mark last year, the Minutemaids lost a lot from last year. Sarah Treffer, who is now playing college basketball at Hastings college, was the key offensive piece for Lexington last year averaging 20 points per game. They also lost Mia Rowe, who was their second leading scorer with 6 points per game. All in all, Lexington lost 7 seniors and 4 starters from last year. It will be a heavy underclassmen team to lead Lexington this year, which could also help them in years to come.

Listen to head coach Robb Koerting and sophomore Hannah Scharff talk at the 2022 Lexington Media Days.

Both the girls and the boys open up the season at home on December 1st against Gothenburg.
