Lex. educator named American Legion High School Teacher of the Year

Kearney, Neb. — Michael Zarate was named High School Teacher of the Year at the annual Nebraska American Legion Department Convention Saturday, June 22 in Kearney.

Zarate has been an educator at Lexington High School for over 20 years, teaching Biology, Anatomy and Forensic Science recently.

He also has been the advisor for the National Honor Society at the school.

In his spare time, he has coached and officiated soccer and American Legion Baseball.

He is currently the Vice Commander of American Legion Post 111 in Lexington and has coordinated both the Veterans Day and Memorial Day programs.

In his acceptance speech, he credited doing what he loves and thanked the community for their support of veterans.

He was presented a plaque from Nebraska Department Commander John Henry Pearcy.

Mike is married to Laurie Zarate and is the father of two children, Brianna and Mathew.
