“Leaping into 4-H where the Sky is the Limit” camp was attended by 27 Frontier County Clover Kids recently. These camps are part of the summer workshops provided by the Nebraska Extension Frontier County Office. One camp took place in Curtis at NCTA campus on Wednesday May 22. The Eustis event was held on Thursday May 23 at the Eustis Fair Building. There was a great turnout of excited kids at Eustis and Curtis!
Youth learned about the 4-H program, what the four “H’s” stand for head, heart, hands & health and ALL the FUN projects! During camp participants learned about Nebraska Frogs/toads & why we don’t throw trash in ponds and roadsides. Poison Proof with Pinky the elephant helped them learn how medicine & candy look similar and not to eat candy from strangers.
The 4-H “A Space for Me” booklet helped them learn about recycling, how to organize their rooms with storage containers, & they explored primary colors while painting their own storage boxes. Lastly the youth talked about My Plate food groups, read & followed a snack recipe and practiced measuring ingredients for their Clover Kid Camp snack.
Every workshop participant has the option of entering 5 of their items at the county fair under the 4-H Clover Kid division. The camp was organized and taught by 4-H Youth Development Educator Kathy Burr with NCTA/4-H summer intern Tia El Wahbi Khamouna & 4-H youth volunteer Shelby Jurjens assisting. Mandy Contrerez Nebraska Extension -Frontier County Administrative Assistant developed summer promotion flyer, created, and took the online registrations.
The 4-H Clover Kid program is designed specifically for youth ages five to seven. The program offers a variety of educational and recreational experiences in non-competitive environments. These opportunities are ideal for developing confidence, creativity, and competence during this stage of youth development.
