KEARNEY, NE -The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) was dispatched to an industrial fire at Andersen Wrecking located at 1912 Avenue M in Kearney on Monday morning.

Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy black smoke and flames coming from the exterior and interior of Anderson’s sorting building. Firefighters worked to extinguish the conveyor belts on the exterior of the structure while crews made entry for fire attack and search. Crews found additional conveyor belts on fire inside the structure.

The Nebraska State Fire Marshall assisted KVFD with the fire investigation. The cause has yet to be determined, but initial investigation indicates the fire was caused by molten metal that fell into a debris pile and spread to the conveyor belts.

KVFD reports the fire was brought under control shortly before 12:30 pm. No injuries were reported.

Good Samaritan EMS and Kearney Police Department also assisted on the scene.
