AP-Big changes could be coming to high school sports in the state of Kansas. Schools from the sunflower state have voted to pass the KSHSAA’s private school multiplier proposal. The results of the vote were announced this week at the KSHSAA executive board meeting. 61 percent of the schools and four of the six classifications voted to adopt the multiplier designed to address a competitive imbalance throughout the state. All of the smaller classes in the state 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A voted in favor while Classes 5A and 6A voted against the measure. Overall the vote was 216 for with 139 against. For the proposal to go into effect, a change to a state statute is required. KSHSAA will now move the multiplier proposal on to the Kansas State Board of Education and the Kansas State Legislature for approval. The legislature’s is next in session in 2023.
