OMAHA, NE – During his lunch break on Thursday from his job as a steamfitter, Dan Osborn, independent U.S. Senate candidate running against Nebraska U.S. Senator Deb Fischer, announced that his campaign has secured major union endorsements and collected the number of signatures needed to qualify for the November ballot.

“To the people of Nebraska: I’m Dan Osborn. I served in the United States Navy and the Nebraska Army National Guard. I’m a blue-collar guy who works for a living,” Osborn told the crowd of supporters gathered at a union hall in Omaha, Nebraska.

“I’m an independent. I’m running for US Senate right here in Nebraska, and I’m proud to accept the endorsement of the Nebraska AFL-CIO,” he said.

Osborn said his campaign has reached historic fundraising support just months after announcing his candidacy late last year.

“We’ve raised $550,000, a record for an independent here in Nebraska. And, our statewide team of volunteers have collected the number of signatures needed for me to qualify for the ballot. We will keep collecting signatures so that we have a cushion before turning them into the Secretary of State.”

Since the Democratic Party did not field a candidate, the stage is set – Dan Osborn vs Deb Fishcer.

Osborn is talking with and gaining support from voters across Nebraska regardless of political party – independents, Republicans and Democrats.

He spoke with KRVN’s Jon Willis.
