ELWOOD – As the start of the football season is near, the Hi-Line football team looks to a new start after a surprise early exit in the first round of the playoffs last season.

The Bulls finished 7-2 last year, dropping their playoff opener to Summerland 52-46. Headed into the 2024 season, Hi-Line loses a lot of offensive production from players like Ryker and Treyton Evans, along with wide receiver Wryston Brell. Those three players made up 2,569 of the 3,440 all purpose yards from last year. Hi-Line will have a good mix of both returners and newcomers this season. Asher Hecox will be one of the key returners, after a year with over 300 yards rushing and three total touchdowns. Hecox also had 92 tackles and four sacks. Judah Niemeier is also expected to make a bigger impact for the Bulls this year, after catching two touchdowns last year. Brody Diefenbaugh had a big role on defense last year, with 48 tackles and a sack.

5th year head coach Ben Spiegel says he feels his team will be more balanced this year, with their defense leading the way. He talked with KRVN’s Jon Willis.

Hi-Line will start their season on August 30th at Arcadia/Loup City.
