THEDFORD – Cattlemen and women from across Nebraska are invited to attend Hereford Crossroads No. 10, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Thomas County Fairgrounds in Thedford.

According to a release, this is an annual event honoring past Hereford breeders and the Hereford cattle that grazed the Sandhills. The breed is known for its ability to survive the hottest summers and the harshest winters.

The event, once described as a “Hereford family reunion”, began ten years ago in Thedford when a group of former and current Hereford breeders decided to start the annual occasion to preserve the history of Hereford cattle in the region.

This year the historic “Hereford Alley”, Highway 83 from Thedford to Valentine, will feature Hereford breeders in the area from the 1960’s to present.

Each year several individuals and Hereford herd bulls are inducted into their Hall of Fame.

For the first time a commercial cattleman, Dale Pound of Brownlee, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Pound was known for his outstanding cow herd and purchased many top quality bulls from area producers.

The Bull Hall of Fame honoree is UPS Neon 0324, bred by Upstream Ranch near Taylor. This bull sold to Benj Fink of Elsmere in 2012. There, on the shores of Goose Creek in Cherry County, he was photographed and later gained notoriety when the nationally prominent artist Brandon Bailey painted his likeness. The painting appeared on the cover of the New Mexico Stockman in October 2023

The event will begin with doors opening at 4 p.m., social hour at 5 p.m. and a prime rib dinner at 6 p.m. catered by the Sandhills Corral of Thedford. A live auction of specialty items will include custom made mugs created by artist Amy Simonson and Husker tickets to the UCLA game on Nov. 2.

Tickets to the dinner are $35 per person or $60 per couple. Reservations must be submitted by Saturday, Oct. 5, by contacting Dixie Hoffman at 406-425-0477.
