A Hastings couple was arraigned in Dawson County Court Monday afternoon, each on a charge of Shoplifting with a value between $500 and $1,500. The case stems from a Lexington Police Department investigation of a shoplifting at the Lexington Walmart store that occurred on the evening of April 14, 2024. An officer received information that 31-year-old Madison Hulse and 34-year-old Nicholas Terjak allegedly stole items totaling $941.34. Similar charges are pending against them in Lancaster County Court.

Hulse and Terjak were reported to have taken numerous packs of trading cards, enough to fill two reusable shopping bags, along with some grocery items from the Lexington Walmart store. According to the police report, security footage showed two Dr. Peppers were paid for but, nothing else. The couple was later shown in the footage pushing the shopping cart past the last point of sale.

The Lexington police report continued that the pair is suspected of similar “pushouts” across Walmart stores in Lincoln, Ogallala, North Platte and western Nebraska. A Lincoln Police Department report suggests the couple had numerous shoplifting cases in the Hastings and Grand Island area.

Bond for each of them was set in Dawson County Court at 10% of $5,000. Both were scheduled for plea hearings on May 21, 2024 and 9:30am in Dawson County Court.
