(Hastings, NE) – Looking to bounce back from their weekend loss to Concordia, Hastings lost 3-0 (22-25, 25-27, 13-25) to Midland on Wednesday.
The Broncos kept the first set close, never trailing by more than four points. The Warriors, however, took the first set 25-22 as they led most of the first set.
Hastings started the second period strong by winning the first five points. Midland closed the gap, eventually taking a 18-17 lead. After a Warrior timeout with Hastings pulling ahead to lead 21-19, the Broncos continued to lead, getting match points at 24-23 and 25-24, but Midland held strong. Eventually, Midland took control of the second set, winning it 27-25.
The third set opened with the Warriors as they jumped out to a 15-4 lead. Hastings responded by winning the next six points to lead to a Midland timeout. The Warriors regained control however, taking the third set 25-13.
Senior Majesta Valasek and freshman Mikah O’Neill led the team with kills, while junior Kaitlin Thiebauth had eight kills with a .438 hitting percentage. Senior Miriam Miller had 21 kills and junior Alexis Pontine had 26 assists. Hastings will host Morningside at 3pm on Saturday, September 28 in Lynn Farrell Arena.
