UPDATE 3PM: North Platte Police Department is advising residents north of Brady and Gothenburg to evacuate due to the fire.

They are also asking for center pivots north of Brady to be turned on to help with the grass fire. Earlier in the day Dawson County Emergency Manager Brian Woldt asked if center pivots north of Gothenburg could be turned on to help as well.

Highway 47 is shut down at Road 774 north of Gothenburg per Dawson County Sheriff Mark Montgomery.

A large grass fire is underway in rural Lincoln County northeast of North Platte. Three Dawson County fire departments are among those responding in mutual aid. They are being asked to provide grass rigs, tankers and manpower.

North Platte Fire Chief Dennis Thompson tells NTV News that multiple departments have been on the scene of the fire since around 11:30 a.m.

Thompson said the fire is spreading rapidly, with crews working to get ahead of the fire and keep it from jumping roads. He added aircraft is on the way to assist in battling the wildfire.

North Platte Police Department reports that residents between Rolling Hills Rd and N Maxwell Rd need to evacuate. The Salvation Army at 1020 N Adams Street in North Platte is open for those impacted by the grass fire evacuation.

Responders are asked to take Maxwell Road north to staging area near Rolling Hills Road.
