Lincoln, Neb. — Nebraska is implementing regulations to accompany its youth transgender law. The regulations approved Tuesday by Gov. Jim Pillen include a 7 day waiting period to start puberty-blocking drugs or hormone treatments, transgender patients under age 19 will have to undergo at least 40 hours of counseling before getting any gender-affirming treatment and health care providers are required to obtain 3 hours of counseling education before they can prescribe puberty-blockers or hormones.

The regulations approved by Pillen were recommended by Nebraska’s chief medical officer against much opposition from pro-transgender families, activists and medical providers.
