GOTHENBURG – A slow start for Gothenburg saw them trail the entire first quarter, but eventually they would exploded in the second and third quarters to defeat Holdrege, 50-32 in the quarterfinals of the Southwest Conference Tournament Tuesday night.

It took over five minutes before either team would score a bucket, but Holdrege would score first and take a 6-4 lead into the second quarter. The lead would be short lived as the Gothenburg offense would come to life and outscore the Dusters 22-10 in the second quarter. The Swedes would dominate in the third quarter, outscoring Holdrege 17-2. Gothenburg’s defense played a major factor as they forced 25 Duster turnovers. The Swedes also used a balanced offense as nine different players scored. Ellarey Harm led Gothenburg with 11 points while Ashlyn Richeson chipped in 10 points. Emily Cornwell and Logan Hilbers each scored six points. MaKenna Fulmer led Holdrege with 10 points in the loss. Keeley Vaughn would score eight points.

Up next: Gothenburg will play Ogallala at Kearney High School in the semifinals Friday at 3:30 p.m. Listen to that game on KAMI 100.1FM, 92.7FM and krvn.com. Holdrege will play McCook in a consolation game Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Gothenburg.
