GOTHENBURG – The Gothenburg Swedes hit 12 three pointers and fed off a strong defensive effort in their 64-32 win over Cozad in the second round of the C1-11 girls subdistricts.
Despite a sluggish start to start the game and six point lead, Gothenburg would explode in the second quarter to outscore Cozad 20-10. The Swedes would continue the momentum in the third quarter, silencing the Haymaker offense, holding them to two points while scoring 15. Gothenburg would build a 31 point lead in the second half and the deficit would prove to be too much for Cozad to overcome.
In the win, Gothenburg forced 20 turnovers and saw three different players score in double digits. Aubrey O’Hare led the team with 15 points, including knocking in three triples in the first quarter. Alex Beveridge scored 13 points and Zoe Beveridge added 12 points off the bench as she hit four three pointers. The Swedes would finish with 15 turnovers. In the loss, Graci Marhenke led Cozad with 12 points while Taryn Chytka scored seven.
