Gothenburg capitalizes on Minutemaid miscues

LEXINGTON – Errors would doom the Lexington Minutemaids as Gothenburg would take advantage early in the first inning, scoring four on four errors and never looked back. Gothenburg would go on to win 14-2 in three innings Thursday night.

Lexington would commit eight total errors on the night. Gothenburg would benefit, but also found success on offense, smacking 12 hits. Solid pitching from Gothenburg also helped guide the Swedes to the win, allowing only two hits all game.

Brianna Houchin would pick up the win in the circle for Gothenburg, going three innings, allowing three hits, two runs, one earned, walked two and struck out three. At the plate, Andrea Bassett wen 2-3 with a double and two RBI’s. Dakota Warner also went 2-2 with two runs driven in. For Lexington, Kianna Clouse picked up the loss, going an inning and a third, allowing five hits, five runs, one earned, walked two and struck out three. Offensively, Marissa Oestreich went 2-2 with an RBI.

Lexington dropped to 1-11 and will play Southern Valley-Alma on Tuesday. Gothenburg improved to 3-6 and will participate in the McCook invite on Saturday.
