MINDEN – Gothenburg used a suffocating defense to shut out the Minden Whippets 32-0 Friday night.

Gothenburg began the game with an electric 51 yard rushing touchdown from Evan Johnson on a fourth down conversion on their first drive. From there, the Swedes never looked back. Gothenburg would strike again in the second quarter on a one yard rushing touchdown from Jackson Daum. The Swede defense would then force a fumble late in the quarter. Caden Neels would scoop and score from 28 yards out. Gothenburg led 19-0 at the half.

Minden continued to struggle moving the ball in the second half, picking up only two first downs. Gothenburg would score two more times in the final two quarters. Landon Mroczek found Neels for an eight yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Backup QB, Dillon Floyd scored late in the fourth quarter on an 18 yard rushing touchdown.

Gothenburg dominated running the football, accounting for 219 yards. Johnson led all rushers with 177 yards and the lone score. Mroczek was 4-5 passing for 74 yards and one touchdown. Gothenburg committed four penalties for 35 yards. Minden only accounted for 92 yards of total offense. Orrin Kuehn led the team with 40 yards rushing and one fumble. Parker Hatch threw for 43 yards on 6-14 passing.

Gothenburg improves to 4-4 and will host Broken Bow next Friday. Minden drops to 3-5 and will travel to Cozad for their final game.
