May 23rd, 2024 | Jayson Jorgensen

Memorial Day weekend and Memorial Day itself has always been a special time for the Fredericksburg Lutheran Church located south of Minden. Over the last past couple of the years, the church has been working on Veteran’s Memorial for the Fredericksburg cemetery. Church president Bill Nielsen talks about how this idea came about.

The memorial includes the two large black tablets with Veterans’ names engraved on them, a large American flag, six Military branch flags, two seating areas, lighting, two informational display cases, and the restored bell from the 1911 Church which burned to the ground in July of 1986. The bell honors the ancestors who helped built the congregation and community.

Everyone is cordially invited to attend the dedication and all of the Memorial Day activities this Monday, May 27th. The festivities start at 10:00 a.m. with the American Legion Color Guard salute, followed immediately by a dedication of the memorial in the cemetery. Lunch will be served following the indoor service. A bazaar of crafts, foods and some unique items will be at 2:00 p.m.
