Two firefighters suffered injuries, with one considered to be in serious condition while fighting field fires in eastern Nebraska on Sunday afternoon.

The fires, reported in northern Gage and southern Lancaster County, promoted evacuations for residents in the path of the fire.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office reports there were two fires in the county on Sunday.

  • One was reported southwest of Firth, moving very rapidly to the north. No reported structures were destroyed.
  • The second fire was reported in the area of S.W. 86th and W. Gage Road (south county line) rapidly moving north. Three residences are known to have been destroyed.

The Emergency Management Operations Center has been activated and the Lancaster County Board has issued an Emergency Declaration.

One firefighter suffered serious injuries, and one suffered minor injuries. Their conditions are unknown and details on which department they are with were not shared.

Multiple fires were reported throughout the state as dry, windy conditions persisted throughout the day on Sunday.
